BOOK-IT Christmas Edition

I love reading festive holiday books during December. This year was no different. My favorites were Holiday Spice & Merry and Bright.

Also look at this big beautiful Christmas tree they have at my library.  I was really amazed by its size, I just had to take a picture of it!

SPRING BOOK-IT Part 3

Even more books I want to share! 

We Are Okay:  Maybe I am in the minority on this, but I did not like this book very much. I thought the story was slow and didn't have much of a plot either. 1 star

The Kind Worth Killing: This was a work club book and it was so fast paced and twisty. Constant unexpected twist and turns! The ending though, come on!  As soon as I finished, I had to read the discussion board on Goodreads on theories of that ending (don't want to give it away).  I highly recommend this for all who like a good suspense novel. 4.5 stars

Breathe, Annie, Breath:  Annie is training for a marathon in honor of her boyfriend that recently died.  He was training to run the same marathon before he died in a car accident. The only problem Annie hates running. This one was meh.  2 stars

Pushing the Limits: The story is about 2 teens who each have their own problems and tragedies in their life. Echo gets assigned to tutor Noah. They don't like each other at first, but unite against their counselor. 3 stars

Rich People Problems: Great ending book to this triology! I highly recommend reading these right after another because there are SO many characters to remember and follow. 4.5 stars

Come to Me Quietly: Aleena has loved her brother's best friend since she was little. She hasn't seen him for 6 years and then he walks back into her life. There is a 2nd book, but I probably won't read it anytime soon.  3 stars

Archer's Voice: What a great non-typical love story and refreshingly different! It was worth the read and wonderfully written.  4 stars

Always and Forever Lara Jean: Perfect ending to this triology. You have to read this adorable series!  4 stars

The Edge of Never:  First, how perfect is that french braid on the cover?!  Cam is tired of her life, so she hops on a Greyhound bus with no real destination. She meets Andrew who happens so sit behind her. They decide to go on a road trip together. The rest of the book is their adventure together and the big secret is revealed about Andrew. I'm glad there was an epilogue.  3.5 stars

SPRING BOOK-IT Part 2

Here are more books I have read the last few months. 

Mister O: This romantic comedy was a fun read. Also it was told from the man's POV so that was refreshing. 3 stars

Shug: This book was more geared toward junior high than YA. Perfect for a 12 year old.  2 stars

Alex, Approximately: This is a good summer teen novel if you are in the mood for that. I saw somewhere it described as the YA version of 'You Got Mail.'  Bailey is always chatting with a boy, Alex, online about classic movies. She ends up moving to the same city as him and also ends up getting a job at the same museum as Alex.   3 stars

My (not so) Perfect Life: This was an easy and fluffy read. It makes you think about social media in real life. 3.5 stars

The Arrangement: I was pleasantly surprised by this book.  I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.  4 stars

Falling:  This book follows the story of Emma who moves to the suburbs after quitting her NYC job and meets Dominic, her landlord and father of a 6 year old named Jesse.  I mostly enjoyed it, but then boom that ending... was not expecting that at all. Falling follows the story of Emma, a retired NYC banker that moves to the suburbs to rest and also follow her dreams, there she meets Dominic, her landlord and the father or an adorable 6 year old named Jesse3.5 stars

My Kind of Crazy: This story is about a high-school boy who accidentally sets fire while trying to ask a girl to prom. The girl across the street saw everything and they become friends. 3 stars

Letters to the Lost: This was one of the better YA's I read recently. Juliet lost her mother suddenly and leaves letters to her at her grave. Declan is ordered by the court to do community service, which he chooses to do at the same cemetery.  He finds her letters and decides to write back. 4 stars

Unteachable: I thought it would be like Slammed since it was a similar storyline, but I never could get into it. I almost DNF, but I did power through it.  1 star

I think I am pretty late reading this series. I have seen it everywhere and finally got around to it. Tragic past & insta love = New Adult

I read these this triology the airplane of my flights. I really liked the first two books, but though the third was a little forced. If you like the 'To All the Boys I Loved' series, it gives you the same vibes. Perfect beach reads.

SPRING BOOK-IT Part 1

I can't believe I haven't done a book report since March. I have read a TON of books since then so let's get started.

By Your Side: Classic Kasie West book. Cute, sweet & easy YA read. 3.5 stars

On Second Thought: This was my 2nd book by Kristan Higgins and I really enjoyed it! It is about 2 sisters who are dealing with loss.  It was very real but also funny & a little bit of romance too- great story! 4 stars

Wallbanger:  Funny and enjoyable story. I also read the 2nd book in the series right after. 3 stars

Flat-Out Love: This one was very unrealistic and would never happen in real life, but I still somehow liked it. 3.5 stars

Big Little Lies: I LOVED this book. I also loved the HBO series. Go read it!  4.5 stars

Leave Your Mark:  I'm not quite sure why I decided to pick this book up. I couldn't relate to much of the book because it related more on PR topics.  1 star

The Couple Next Door: This was a work bookclub choice and I loved this suspense/thriller! It wasn't my typical book but so glad I read it because it was crazy good and couldn't stop reading.  It is about a couple who baby is kidnapped.  I never saw the twist coming at all! 4.5 stars

Close Enough to Touch: I would say this is the adult version of Everything, Everything. The main character is allergic to human contact, but ends up liking someone she meets. 3.25 stars

Idol: This is about a rockstar lands up at a farm in the middle of nowhere and falls in love with a girl. I liked the first half of the book much more than the 2nd half. There were some parts that bugged me and seemed like it came out of nowhere.  Overall it was okay but didn't blow me away.  3 stars

Book Tour Review: THE FOXE & THE HOUND

Hello! I just got back from vacation. I read over 10 books during the week! I had a lot of time during the 3 airplane rides and all my pool time reading.  I plan to do a big post on my trip later this week.

One of books I read was The Foxe & the Hound by R.S. Grey.  It was my first book by this author. I really enjoyed it!! I thought it was such a cute book and had the perfect ending! I definitely want to read more books by this author.

Work Book Club

Our work started a book club after the holidays. The last Monday of every month we meet after work and have dinner.

I hosted the latest book club at my house.  I got out our wedding dishes and silverware for my work ladies. I found these cute napkins on Zazzle and thought they would be perfect for book club!

I made Chicken Stir Fry and we talked about Small Admission by Amy Poeppel. Since I hosted, I get to pick the next book. Because of the HBO series coming out, I chose Big, Little, Lies!

WINTER BOOK-IT (part 3)

 Here are the books I have read in the past month. 

All In Pieces: Very YA and on the boring side. 1 star

The Unexpected Everything: This one has been on my TBR list for awhile. I have seen so many others read it and enjoyed it, but I just couldn't get into it. It didn't help it was SUPER LONG. 1 star

The Fill-In Boyfriend: Probably my least favorite Kasie West book.  2 stars

Summer of Supernovas: Did not like very much and wasn't into the whole zodiac thing.  1 star

How to date a Douchebag:  I decided to read it after it made Maryse's List. It's your average "jock falls in love with the nerdy girl" book which are usually a fun read.  4 stars

The Score: Did not like it as much as the first 2 Off-Campus books in the series. (And I LOVED the The Deal) Maybe it didn't help that I had this book on hold for over 6 months before I finally got to read it. Not sure if I will read the 4th book. I heard it wasn't that great.  3 stars

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me: Also on Maryse's Top 2016 Books and I thought it was such a good slow burn sports romance.  It is a pretty long book, but don't let that scare you.  5 stars

Small Admissions: This one was our book club book for January. I probably wouldn't have read it on my own, but I actually enjoyed it.  Kate gets dumped and has no job and no place to live. Her sister Angela gets her a job in the admission office of a fancy school in NY. Emails, texts, and recorded phone conversations are part of the book.  My favorite character was Angela's husband.  4 stars

Commonwealth: This one was also on my hold list for quite awhile. It's been all over the book world to read. The husband of one family has an affair with the wife of another.  They divorce, marry each other, and their families become intertwined over the next 5 decades. It's a little slow at times, and sad, but also hopeful (if that makes sense).  4 stars

WINTER BOOK-IT (part 2)

 Here is another slew of books I read around the holidays.

The Bookshop on the Corner: For some reason I thought this book had a Christmas theme, but it doesn't. Not that it matters, but it threw me off a bit reading it. It tells the story of Nina whose librarian job becomes obsolete and she realizes her dream of owning a bookmobile. 3 stars

Miracle on 5th Avenue: This was a perfect Christmas read. The author even liked my instgram picture I posted. Such a cute story!  4.5 stars

Sorry Not Sorry: I HATED this book. I only read it because I had watched Glee. There were hardly any Glee stories in the book which was highly disappointing. Also Naya put relationship advice in her book and she just recently announced her divorce, so yeah. 1 stars

The Sun is Also A Star: Isn't it a cool cover? This book had a ton of hype, but I liked this author's other book (Everything, Everything) better.  3 stars

Punk 57: I read Bully and wanted to read another book by this author. I didn't love it as much as Bully, but still enjoyed it.  Two kids are pen pals for years when one of them finally realizes who they have been writing to all this time. This is definitely an angsty, romance book. 3 stars

The Girl on the Train: This book put me on the edge of my seat. I really want to see the movie now!  3.5 stars

Twelve Days of Christmas: This was a sweet feel-good Christmas romance. Julia loves life and has a grumpy next door neighbor. She decides to kill with him kindness and document it in her blog. Julia is a kind, outgoing person, and goes out of her way to help others. Cain is a grumpy man who just wants to be left alone. When the two meet, they clash. With the suggestion of a friend, Julia decides to kill Cain with kindness, as part of a twelve day challenge.SI I highly recommend for the holidays!  4 stars

Love and Gelato: Cute YA book that makes me want to go to Tuscanysweet, feel-good Christmas romancescandys.. 3 stars

Love, Rosie: They are friends, but the timing never works out for them to be together. The book follows them for YEARS. I then rented the movie from library. This is one of the rare instances that I like the movie better than the book.  3.5 stars
